An opportunity for wheel throwers, lovers of wood firing, those interested in Japanese ceramics and ‘clay centric’ travel stories
We are thrilled to welcome Curly Boy aka Jack Parnaby to The Kiln Room upon his return from Japan where he is currently participating in a Wood Firing tour. Join us for an action packed day of travel stories from Japan, clay, form, surface, and discover how Jack’s experiences in Japan have informed his own practice.
As some of you may be aware Jack is in the process of a huge project, he is 450 vessels in (and counting) on his way to completing 500 unique vessels for exhibition, focusing on bottles. He has spent many hours repeating, refining and considering these types of forms. He is generously offering to share his honed craftsmanship with us!
The hands on workshop component of the day is suitable for participants with basic wheel throwing skills (need to be able to comfortably centre clay on the wheel). In the Workshop Jack will demonstrated a variety of enclosed forms and surface finishes. You will be encouraged to make as many pots as you like and can choose 1kg worth that will be fired in the next Studio Nioka Anagama firing.
*Artist talk 9:00am-10:30am is free and open to everyone, no skill set required
