ABOUT THE KILN ROOM…

The Kiln Room is the brainchild of Pie Bolton. Her concept is the evolution of a studio, growing in facilities and services at the request of the ceramic community and wishing to build connections between artists. It aims to promote the sharing of knowledge and to embody the generosity of spirit of early ceramicists and potters.

The first incarnation of The Kiln Room was as a complete ceramic firing service (currently closed to new clients because of demand for Pie’s specialist skills). Pie is now developing a number of specialist courses to assist the understanding of ceramic processes and the advancement of personal practice. The Kiln Room is serious about ceramics and seeks to promote technical excellence in the field. Opportunities for private tuition, residencies and studios are also available at The Kiln Room.

Pie has a wealth of experience when it comes to technical expertise, firing skills and general chatter about clay. She has been employed for many years at tertiary institutions as a Ceramic Technician responsible for the management of multiple ceramic studios including wheel throwing, hand building, glaze, plaster and firing. She collaborated with TACA to create an online firing course which can be found here.
